His presence in our recruitment function will be a huge boost in landing one or two outstanding talents we need to really move up the ladder. He wasn't known as 'the recruiter' for nothing. Great move and can't wait to have himback.

Is recruitment his role? I thought that was more of a Hartigan role? From my limited understanding, Sheens will be about consolidating and coordinating "pathways"?

His role is a bit of everything, I'm hoping it doesn't impact Hartigan's role too heavily as he is crucial. Though he could be brought in for some star power to help negotiations along.

Was Hartigan across the decision? He's had an outstanding impact on our recruitment as is reflected in the results to date. Sheens would be useful in speaking with players such as Tapine if he chose to leave the Raiders.

I don't know, I'm not ok with it if it reduces Hartigan's role. If it supports Hartigan then I'm on board. I was talking @Tiger_Steve earlier today and he said it would be interesting to see how this impacts the organisational hierarchy of the club.

And, that's the main issue. The "star power" is a 70yo? What can he possibly see or know or understand in the world of PVL thought bubble leadership and impact on NRL that those who are already within the system can't provide?? Label me ageist all you like, but I would hope the the NRL system and clubs have a responsibility to grow the NRL coaches/administrators/leaders of the future. Apart from, supposedly, Ciraldo, Payten, Morris and McGregor, where are they??

Yeah lets not use an excellent man manager style league identity because he is 70.

Welcome back Tiger Tim looking forward to having you back at the club.
Well done to Justin, Lee and the organisation!!

It's no secret that the club has struggled(over the past decade or so) to change with the times or create a strong performance culture and team identity, so this to me signifies another trailblazing moment from the club.
Ironically it's by appointing someone who helped bring our only success and reuniting him with one of his pupils - and the person currently tasked with taking the team to its pinnacle.

As long as everyone's role/purpose is clearly defined and they can work collaboratively toward a common goal, there should be no issues. Our biggest problem is (re) shaping our identity and culture and I only see that we're bringing some great minds together, to achieve this.

I think with the New COE we need an overlay of professionalism and Sheens provides another layer to be respected and a huge calling card for future pathways and attraction for top line player migration into the future. Well done Pascoe

Hope he doesn't get my office

The one next to the privy?

“Tim can also be a sounding board for Madge if Madge wants that,” Pascoe said.

Strange comment to make, as though your trying not to offend Madge.

Side note

- Badger and Tahu were appointed via the Wests Tigers Foundation (Mentioned by General Lee last night)

What does Badger do ? we cop as many penalties as always.

Badge works with the indigenous players in a mentoring role, as well as refereeing contact sessions.

Our Flegg and reserves are doing very well, if we can streamline the process of getting them into our top grade in the most effective way it's a massive win

This is how majority of Penrith's current team started... all playing juniors together and killing it.

Great News. Im thinking one Benji Quinton Marshall will be the only ex tiger not having a gig here. Talk about burning your bridges.

How much was Robbie enjoying his role last night lol

The grin on his face when the chant went up made my night.

The football department now out number the players. Every week there is a new job created.

Actually could be a master stroke, someone to take on some of Madge’s non coaching duties. Also someone who seems to be able to connect with players and player managers

If there is one thing Sheens has, it's the respect of the wider football community. All the talking heads worship him because he either coached them, coached against and beat them, or they coached under him or is just friends with them. They don't call him Teflon for no reason. Nothing sticks, because he's everyone's mate.

Much is made of the Bellamy/Melbourne factory for 1st grade coaches, but Bellamy and heap of others came from the Sheens years at Canberra

What is it about 2021 professional rugby league, that the return of a soon-to-be 71yo former NRL coach is greeted with such entusiasm?

What does he have to offer a more contemporary (with players and many fans) coaching team other than extended experience in the game?

So, the answer to building a future powerhouse club of the NRL is to seek the input of a relic of the past?

Huh?? I wonder what he is being paid??

If the topic was about signing Ben Gardiner (he's the Magpies' NSW Cup coach) to a senior role of "football performance", I'd be much more enthused.

But, good on Sheensy for adding to his superannuation portfolio. Let's hope that his impact is as significant in the immediate future of the Wests Tigers.

Because it is playing to Sheens strength which was building pathways (think Keebra Park connection) and identifying and developing young talent. Not coaching. Sheens did incredible things in those days in the area of pathways and development and it was all on the smell of an oily rag with a very unprofessional club set up. TIgers are a different animal and it doesnt matter that he is 71 and the game is different, that aspect of the game is more important than ever and its an area we are not strong in, but have opportunities (St Gregs for gods sake) and Im excited to see what someone with the experience and reputation of Sheens can do.

He will be a slightly less arrogant and repugnant version of Gus for us.

I think everyone has got this wrong. Sheens will not be used to "attract" players and I doubt Hartigans role changes.

The way I see it, Tim Sheens created the Keebra Park Scholarship pathway that gave us Benji, Teo, BMM and others on a platter. THere is NO natural connection between a Qld High School and the Wests Tigers, there is no natural connection between a QLD High School and a heap of Kiwi talents. THese things dont "accidentally" happen. Sheens made that happen and it was left to wither as has St Gregs. What is being done with Holy Cross (I dont know). What opportunities are available in the country? In the UK? IMO this is where Sheens experience will be pointed.

Much has been made of Gus supposed involvement in forging pathways for the Pamfers in Bathurst, Wellington, etc etc. Coincidentally these areas seem to coincide with areas that had struggling licensed clubs that were taken over by the Panthers Group but there is no doubt that it has resulted in a rich vein of kids coming through that will make Penrith strong for many years. IMO its possible with the clubs support and maybe Ashfields support for us to do similar.

This is a long term project IMO.

Strategic dig. "Coach" Tim Sheens.
Gus has been a rugby league politician so long I don't think he even knows he is doing it anymore.
