Time for a Keep Blake Austin thread yet ?

Like many Tigers players of the past you wish you could combine their skills

Like giving all Tigers players Fulton tackling or Bryce's line speed in defence or Payten's ball skills

I wish Moses had Austins running game and size and wish Austin had Brooks passing game

And I wish they all had Matt Ballin's ability to play 180 odd games straight without missing one

If his defence is up to it, I think he has to play lock. We have enough size to carry a smaller forward, and I cant see them breaking up the Brookes/Moses combination, but he definately has to be in the team somewhere

These days the lock plays in the middle, like a prop, so 2nd row would probably be more appropriate. Whether he could be carried by the pack depends on whether we have another lightweight Halatau-style backrower.

I would love to see him as our "back" on the bench, but he can still rotate through the forwards. Considering out inevitable injuries, he'll probably spend most of the year as a starter anyways.

Austin has been ruled out for the season !
Does that mean he'll return in round 10 next year ??

Pretty well my thoughts too.

Blake Austin is set to quit the Wests Tigers and link with the Canberra Raiders on a multi-year deal with the club now turning their attention to Newcastle Knights flyer Akuila Uate.

Austin revived his NRL career at the Tigers this season and filled in the utility role at the club, playing halfback, fullback, hooker and five-eighth. Despite having a year to run on his contract, Austin is set to be offered a release from the Tigers as he looks to help fill the halves void at the Raiders having joined the Tigers from Penrith this season.

The Tigers have emerging players Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses as their halves combination next season following the impending departure of Austin and the retirement of veteran Braith Anasta. A host of other players including Jack Buchanan, Tim Moltzen and Kurtis Rowe could also be forced out of the Tigers.

With Anthony Milford leaving for Brisbane and skipper Terry Campese relegated to NSW Cup in the final rounds of the season, the Raiders are searching to boost their depleted halves stocks.

Article posted today?
New news or re-hashing old news for an article?

Could all be media hype and raiders are signing some other of our players…
Not Austin but in fact Rowe, Moltzen & Buchanan.

I reckon it's fluff. Who's making the call? Potter says Austin's staying (if Potter stays). Otherwise who is the coach to make the call? Why would we release him? Where else would we spend the money, (and get better value)? Tigers will need to sort through a few things before we get there I reckon.

No it's not time for a keep Austin thread because no one at the club has ever suggested anything other than that Austin is a highly valued member of out squad and will play an important role next year.

How anyone can get that we want to get rid of him next season is beyond me.

Just because some crappy journalist from the telecrap writes something in a paper doesn't make it true FFS!

Old news re hashed from a week ago…letting Blake go would be idiotic ...O Oh Wests Tigers ..see u Blake

Iam not sure on this one, most clubs these days tend to grant releases as they figure it is no use keeping a unhappy player.

I would imagine at this stage his manager is just doing a bit of fishing, like most others I think he offers so much to our club so really it would be madness to even think about it.

It's pretty simple, really.

We don't _want_ to get rid of him, but we won't stand in his way for a starting gig somewhere else. I am a HUGE fan of Austin, on and off the field. Unfortunately though, our future is Brooks and Moses. Austin may be ahead of Moses right now, but Moses has bigger potential in my opinion.

It's a tough call I'd hate to make, but it is what it is. We can't keep them all.

I'd love it if Austin was willing to stay for a back-up/utility role. But he deserves better.

Moses needs to go into State Cup and hone his skills,he can be slightly erratic with his passing and indecision, these can cost you big time in the NRL,I'm not knocking the kid but he can gain valuable experience in the State cup and further develope he need not be rushed..Blake on the other hand has proved he can play the 6.and if he is here for next year and does get injured ,then bring up Moses…

Do they mean that Canberra or the Tigers are focussing on Uate ??

Did you all miss the fact that the tigers are turning their attention towards akuila uate ? Good or bad move ?

Extremely bad move.
I thought Canberra wanted Aku….

I think the article is very poorly written

Austin or Uate, for mine wouldn't even consider Uate over Austin,Uate hasn't the versatility that Blake brings to the Wests Tigers…...

The author makes it sound like the tigers are resigned fo to fact that austin is leaving and are now focued on signing Uate. However, this is the first I've heard of a link to Uate so it could be true that they were refering to Canberra. Either way, it's a poorly written article.
