@PYMBLEPETE said:There are some strange views being expressed in this thread. Austin has a contract for next year with Weststigers. Weststigers offered him a two year contract, taking a risk on some aspects of him playing for us, not the least of which was whether he would perform successfully at NRL level. The fact that he has performed well, and now allegedly wants to move to Canberra next year to play 5/8 seems to some to open the Tigers to some moral obligation to let him go. I reckon that is rubbish. We took a risk on him; he needs to see the second year through with us, and if he wants to go to Canberra after that then so be it. I cant imagine that this is actually what is going on - sounds as if the reporting of this has got confused - as usual.

100% with you pymble.
We took the risk on him and he happily signed a 2 year contract.
Earlier in the year he said he just wanted to get a spot in first grade - latest reports say he doesn't want to stay unless he plays 5/8.
Two words - bad luck!
What happens if we are as caring as some want and tell him he can break his contract and go somewhere else and Brooks or Moses (or both) get injured early in the year?
Will they still be happy we let him go as he carves up our reserve grade halves?

@MacDougall said:Do you think Austin has first crack at the six at this point? Surely he must.
@dazza65 said:Yes sure a clean out is good once in a while (especially the "executives") however hasn't anybody heard of a depth chart?
Considering the amount of injuries we seem to have year on year we need coverage across all positions of NRL quality - just like the top teams have - and one of the most cost effective ways to achieve that is to find and KEEP players who are genuine utility players of NRL standard - Blake has turned out to be one of them
As another poster said, what are the odds that our 6 or 7 will play all 26 rounds next year? Not bloody likely!!
And besides, Blake is contracted for 2015\. Upgrade him $$ as a reward for his efforts this year.

No.
I know he is the flavour of the month but he has no passing game and no kicking game. He should not play in the halves. He is a good ball runner but disrupts rhythm and structure.
I wouldn't release him though, purely because the chance of us playing our first choice halves for an entire season is virtually 10,000/1\. So he will play plenty of games as he is a good utility.

I understand what your saying Hybrid , but you must admit he is worth spending 12 months with improving his kicking and passing game
I honestly can't see Moses reaching Austin's level of performance by the end of 2015 anyway
You just never know , his hands just might improve with the right person spending time with him and then he probably becomes the best half at our club
What some need to understand is when you have a major strength like Austin's running game , you tend not to concentrate on passing game especially when you are tearing it up at NYC and NSW Cup level and perhaps you don't listen to the good advice that's coming at that level
Now he has reached a level where he can't just survive off his running game he starts to work on his passing game and kicking game
If that clicks , watch out , as I said he will quickly overtake Brooks as the best half prospect at the WT's
**If his passing game reaches the same level as Brooks , he could quite easily be the next JT**
That's why we shouldn't even consider letting him go
