I like Packer.. just a shame we didn’t get him in his prime !

Now signing Tom Amone our depth upfront is ridiculous.Tamou, Twal, Ofehengaue, Utoikamanu, Mikalele, Amone, Musgrove.

There is no value in keeping Packer for this season. Subsidised release maybe the smart play for all parties.

There is value in keeping Packer...he has loads of experience and the young blokes look up to him..it showed in our recent trial...lets be happy that we have so much depth and particularly experience to make a strong surge for finals footy...

Plus he’s our “hit man” when a dog shot is required !

Yes he is mate,but the young guys could learn a lot from Russ particularly on the training paddock..In my books and I have seen plenty over the years as well as when I played,Russell was very good for us with Matalino,he got really bad injuries which took surgery to fix...he had a very long lay off and his form faultered,now he is back and Madge seems to use him as a mentor for the young blokes...
sidenote...many on here crucify Packer for his misdememours which he has paid for,he was very good at the start of his contract with us and Madge and co seem to think highly of him...I will let them sort out his future...

Where is all this stuff about Packer being a mentor to the young forwards coming from? I don't believe that for a second.

The bloke went from everyday criminal to white collar criminal, thieving a living from the Wests Tigers. The sooner that lowlife is out of the club the better.

I down voted you mate because many people can learn by their mistakes and help others have better lives...I dont know about your upbringing but I was always taught that people have a second chance of redeeming themselves..Packer may not be a person you want to speak highly about and thats completely up to you,however until people have walked a mile in Russes shoes then they can condemn the man...

So you can talk people up without a basis other than notions like "give 'em a fair go", but can't speak negatively about them even with facts of their actual behaviour? Got it.

Plenty of players and people I have time for. Packer isn't one of them and there are plenty of reasons why if you care to look:

- Serious criminal offender. Put a man in hospital over a petty matter.
- Pissing on the paddock during a match
- Lack of effort on the field, like turning his back on defenders in the line.
- Leaving a match at half time because his knee was cold.
- Trying to get medically retired, but miraculously making a comeback when the medical retirement was denied, because he wouldn't be able to thieve his salary anymore.

Do you really think anyone at the club is looking up to this bloke with anything other than admiration for his salary per metres run (around $1,500 per metre in 2020 by the way). Don't kid yourself. packer will be the first bloke out the door as soon as they can get rid of him.

I know one forum member who won’t be Happy with this signing, although I am unsure why. A cheap option who can play if needed, only an upside for me

Their shouldn't be any Forum members happy with this signing ...if you are you finally have become fringerized by the WT's ...and there is no turning back

How could anyone be excited by this signing

We still have 2 spots left, there are no superstars to sign at this point in time, so I see no issue with it, if he was number 30 then maybe, but he is number 28

As I said in another thread , I'd have preferred to see us bring up one of these juniors we have signed in from another club (picking the best of them ....Hartigan's speciality ....) and then giving them a chance to work with the best players we have at the club ...I think if we had followed that logic , we'd end up with a junior in a far better place than Amone and 4 years younger ) no use bringing blokes in from other clubs and having them sit in our junior programs ...they just jump at the next best offer from another club and are gone again ...just my two bob's worth

Maybe madge and harty have seen enough both on the field and in the meetings they would have had to put him above some of the younger blokes we have brought in? Them two together seem to see players true potential even if we cant!! I'm backing them 100% on this one and in right behind them and the club! This off season has been sensational for us and imo one of the best for all clubs! We are building towards something special I reckon and it's a great time to be a tiger!! Also I truly hope we dont throw mbye in the number 14 Jersey I hope we stick with simpkin on the bench hes got real talent and I think he will better suit us going forward!!

Very happy with this signing and wish him well..
I see he has only signed for this year and that has me intrigued because one of the South's fans has said the reason he only signed for 1 year was because he was coming back to South next year. They didn't have a spot for him this year in the top 30 so he took it with us and apparently Madge / Tigers offered him a 3 year deal but only wanted 1 year.. I thought it was a strange comment but now its been announced it makes sense.. Maybe @THE_POM can share some light on this one?
Hope he kills it here and wants to stay longer..
Does anyone know when he is right to play yet as he is coming of injury ?
