I believe that alot off our off field problems can be solved if we merge Balmain and Western Suburbs at all levels, creating the Wests Tigers RLFC.
- That way we eliminate the split boardroom, as there are no more 'sides'.
- Membership will include voting rights, just like most other clubs (rather than being glorified season ticket holders). This boosting membership and therefore $$ for the club.
- Wests Ashfield becomes the Wests Tigers Leagues Club, and enjoys the associated commercial benefits.
- Junior regions can still be split into WT sth-west and WT inner west.
- We pick a long term home ground and base our football operations from there. Homebush is an obvious choice since we are locked in there for the next decade, with ready made state of the art training and rehab facilities.
The current JV structure was relevant 15 years ago, but much has changed since then, and if the club is to remain relevant it needs to change also.
The dinosaurs will be up in arms at such a proposal, but anybody who cares about the long term future of the Wests Tigers could at least appreciate the benefits that this could provide.
