Well if their own long serving Wests aligned HBG directors did not publically state that they were concerned about the future of the WTs under the current administration and then were banned for combined 15:years for what seems minor and disputed claims, then some of the concern surrounding the make up of the board and the clubs future would be less of an issue.

You can pick and choose a side to support and believe but the problem is the small entitled group able to lead the club under it's current governance structure are pulling in different directions and it is questionable that any of them should have or deserve the privilege of making decisions in relation to the future of WTs.given our continual failure in a competition where we should be thriving and in which they have had plenty of time to lead effectively and have failed.
This if nothing else says we should and can do better.
Totally agree with having an independent board.

We need an independent board at wests tigers though. I'm all for that

If the rumours of the recommendations are to be believed, the board of Wests Tigers is supposedly going to be 4 independents, 1 appointed by HBG, 1 appointed by Wests Magpies, and 1 Balmain Tigers

I understand HBG need to protect their asset, so having someone on the board I think is expected.

But in theory, the 4 independents could outvote the 3 JV appointees. Is that "independent" enough? I don't know

I'd get rid of the magpies and Balmain seats personally. 1 or 2 seats for the owners and the rest independent.

I'd personally agree with that too. I suspect it would get some support from some on the Magpies side too, but would get some push back. I don't know enough people on the Balmain side of the JV on their board to say it would be supported.

Totally agree. In every review I’ve ever been involved with, as reviewer or the ‘reviewed’, you’ll agree with some recommendations disagree with others and partially agree with others. Some recommendations will be high priority, some will be medium and others low. For those you agree with you’ll assign a timeline based on priority and how long it will take to do it. For example if a recommendation is to replace a legacy computer system, you can agree with the recommendation but you can’t put a timeline on implementation so you agree to submit a business case for funding approval by a certain time. That’s a bit of a simplification but it’s the way these things play out. To suggest that reviewers all so wise that they get everything spot on is just not sensible.
The board agreed to all recommendations.

This is what I’ve wanted to know since day dot.
This has been listed on the Wests Tigers Wiki page ...since the changes in ownership 3 years ago. The previous share ownership has also been listed on the Wests Tigers wiki for the previous 5 years.

It's also been listed on the Wests Magpies website.

The 240 pokies they got from Balmain is well worth it.

60 Pokies if you'd like to be accurate. These are the ones at the Markets Club. There were machines in store from when 5Dock closed, these were old and were sold as part of the debt settlements.

HBG did acquire 180 pokie machine entitlements with a balance sheet value of about $2.5m (which includes the 60 physical machine entitlements)

Is that you Dennis undercover ?

I wouldn’t say it was gifted. It was in exchange for the assets Balmain owned namely the Rozelle site but splitting hairs here really aren’t we?

Fact of the matter is Balmain own 10% so that was an accurate answer to the question.

Balmain were insolvent so the Wests group were under no obligation to offer them any ownership stake..........so in that sense it was a gift.

Hahaha. No. Just someone armed with plenty of facts, and factual evidence acquired over the years!
Oh obviously very factual and I’m sure not connected to HBG in any way whatsoever despite you knowing how many pokie machines were acquired in the merger, where they are now situated and how many were sold.

I suppose the silent majority of readers can decide for themselves.

Obviously things aren't going in your direction.

Can't win them all.
Oh I don’t think that’s accurate at all.

But yes let’s let others decide.

Btw this isn’t about winning apart from on-field results for Wests Tigers.

Pity others don’t take that view.

In their defence, the system has worked flawlessly. The club board up until the last 6 months has been stable for the last near 70 years.

It's allowed the club to grow and build their current premises (I think in the 1980's), then extend and build the car park in the 2010's....and have the capital to buy Campbelltowns shares in WTs in 2012, bailout Balmain to the tune of $8.5 million in 2016, and then a further $3.2m bailout in 2020/2021 (the Amalgamation).

The club routinely donates significant monies to local organisations directly or via the Club Grants system.

Have your own opinion of their ownership of Wests Tigers, but when you consider their financial performance at club level, the board has worked well, the club has grown and has thrived. Aside from the performance of a part owned football club, the board has performed well.

Not sure how that can be questioned.

No ...I'm not a member
Imagine if the performance of the football team had been any good. How good would their financial performance have been then?

I’m sure you do mate. So how do you know these details

As part of the Amalgamation

Markets Club - 60
Wests Ashfield - 475
Croydon Sports - 45

Before Five Dock closed in 2018 there were a further 30 (these ones I understand were sold,)

When Rozelle closed in 2010 there were just 75 machines left

Now, the entitlements.... In other words, the licences to operate a machine, across the entire portfolio, the HBG owns just shy of 800 entitlements.

All if this information is in the annual reports from the Holman Barnes Group andfreely available information on the internet

Obviously this is readily available to any HBG member over the last 5 years.

But probably most aren't members.
