I went to the game and thought the defence in the first 20 Minutes was good, however the edges looked vulnerable.
Walters looked good in patches and could help out in the hooker role if we don’t get Grant from the Storm. Reynolds looked very poor from dummy half with his passing less than first grade standard and saw the rush defence from the Panthers up on our players too quickly.
Talau was found out last evening in the centres a few times, however he will need to learn his role and be ready later in the year or next as he is still very young.
It was poor conditions in the second half and the CC team did what we should have expect of them.

That sums it up well

I never take much from trials, but talau showed he still has a long way to go...evidence we can't send momorovski to the storm

We need to stop talking in if’s about the Grant swap. It’s dead. Not happening.

I understand what your saying ...but you have players playing for their positions , contracts ....maybe their careers ......

A lot of concerns out of tonight's game ...Madge has a heap of work to turn that performance around

Yes, it was a trial for the other team as well, but they showed up.

Scolari is underwhelming after all the hype about him. Another tiny winger, and not that fast.

What a stupid comment! I watched the game on the live stream and you only had to listen to the commentators after he wasn’t passed the ball with line wide open not once but TWICE (one by a development player the second time mind you) and could not get the ball. If you watched the tape he only touched the ball from a high ball which he took well. Almost saved a try when he flipped Naden over on the try line after Talau went down on the short side. He basically had only 18 minutes on the field when Panthers had 90% of the ball with penalties so how you could say he was slow is ridiculous. I also suggest you take a look at club stats and watch highlights from games from last year.

Dillon showed good speed - query over high ball - needs to work on that and his passing. Madden very good. Cini solid without being spectacular.

Give these kids a break - comments like that doesn’t help.

Westigerman pull your head in. Scolari would have scored twice if given the ball. He and the other really young players now know what level they need to get to for the NRL. I expect big improvements from them all as a result of this experience.

While the plan at the moment is to move Doueihi to 5/8 once Marshall retires, it wouldn't surprise if Brooks moved to 5/8 to accommodate Madden at 1/2. Those doubters who really gave it to Madden now need to rethink their views.

I was at the game and I agree Madden looked good to me

Needs to work on his defence. He was having a go, but got bumped off regulalry.

I thought Dillon looked good

He might have looked good, nice headgear etc.

As a Full Back - he is not worth a bean, absolutely hopeless.

That's a bit of a rubbish comment about a young kid based on 10 mins in a trial Russ....expect better..

You mustn't of watch too many of his games in Flegg I take it..

Didn't see any of his games in Flegg - if he was better in Flegg, then he should go back there.

On last night, I do not rate him as a FB.

I will say he will be in the NRL this year. Maguire obviously rates him and all he needs is the Brooks' school of training to hit and stick. He is our next 7 with Brooks at 6 although what number you wear in the halves is irrelevant.

Hoffman and Scolari should be played as a combination either on the right or left in CC. Build up the pairing because I liked the way they chased through as a pair to get the drop out.

Dillon would learn a lot from that experience. From what I have read he is a dedicated trainer and I expect him to take it to another level in CC.

I see a lot of panicking on here and what for
The team we played last night is nothing like what we will put on the field come round 1
Nofo
Bj
Momirovski
Thompson
Marshall
Brooks
Twal
Mikaele
Mbye
Jennings
Garner
All missing from last night
It's like having a v8 car and taking out 6 spark plugs
What do you all expect
It's not going to run smoothly
It will cough and splitter
Last night was a typical Ford run

Its not we lost it's how we lost that is the problem

Our biggest focus across the board should have been defence ,,whether you were playing NRL or CC because at times they were both very bad last season

And they throw that performance up ......9's don't care ..different game ...this is our 2nd last trial before Rd 1 ....everyone should be jumping out of their skins wanting to impress

Just a reminder of what we have seen so regularly since day dot ...no pride in the jersey to put your balls on the line when defending your try line no matter what

Wow, that escalated quickly. No i wasn't trying to have a dig at you, but replying to your indirect jibe at me about being comfortable coming 9th. There's nothing i hate more than missing the 8. I was merely putting the result in perspective and trying to quell some of the wrist slitting going on in this place. If that was competition proper id be blowing up a treat too, but it isn't and they are called trials for a reason. Here's a quote from Madge after last night

"I thought people like Zane Musgrove and Billy Walters performed at a high level for their first hit-out with the club.

"The second half we were off by a fair way. **I was very purposely giving everyone at the club a run at this level** and then next week I'll take a squad of 23 to Rotorua so I'll be narrowing it down."

Sounds like he used the game for it's intended purpose and trialed players. Clearly he wasn't fussed about the result or the strongest team possible would have played the whole game. Now i'm no expert, but if it's good enough for a premiership winning coach to treat a trial for it's intended purpose then it's good enough for me and i'm pretty sure Madge isn't comfortable with 9th either.

Imagine being the Titans beaten by Burleigh Bears with a heap of NRL players ouch...Clarkey last seen rocking back n forth in the corner..

First thing about these trials that I think a lot of folks seem to forget is it is not true match conditions. Some of these boys are able to run on and off at the coach's leisure and it's not a proper test of forwards conditioning.

Last year we got steamrolled by the Warriors in the trial then smashed them in Rd 2. So when it comes to forwards, I mostly look at individual efforts rather than who is winning the ruck, because if they run on a whole bunch of fresh guys or you have mostly kids on there, then of course there is an imbalance.

Out wide, different sort of issue, with blokes who have never played together being asked to defend for significant periods. Obviously Penrith were quite successful out wide, but I saw Naden, Whare, Mansour, To'o all running around, also Luai, Tyrone May and Burton - that's basically their starting backline minus the injured Smith and rested Cleary.

So it's unfortunate that Penrith found a lot of gaps and space out wide, but again we did not put a single tested first grader in 2-5, nor do they have previous experience playing together, so it's not surprising that they were disjointed in defence.

Again you have to look at the individual performances. I agree Talau was struggling to make his tackles; not good reads at all. Musgrove clearly a step above any other forward out there. The other senior forwards did well early with managing the ruck and making their tackles - Clark, Hooth.

Matheson Johns was a handful and great legs pumping a la Brandon Smith; hard to tell if he got any real centre ball and was mostly used in early hit-ups like a backrower.

Billy Walters will clearly be hooker Rd 1 unless Maguire chooses Mbye, because his passing is in another galaxy compared to JRey. Good smart little footballer Walters, there's a lot to like, he can kick and he defends energetically.

Which still leads to my next question ...we probably fielded the weakest squad of all 16 sides bar the teams with heavy All Star involvement

So have the 15 other clubs got it wrong or do we have it right .....
