What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

Isn't it time that we Give the "Wests" Branding some light in this joint venture and let them be the SOLE feeder club for 2011 and beyond.. Wests have the Juniors and the money.. Balmain does NOT… The "Balmain" side gets the very prominent branding in everyone (media/commentators) calling Wests Tigers "The Tigers" plus a more inner sydney game opportunities at leichhardt and SFS.. I support Wests Tigers 100% but think it should be a fairer 50/50 joint venture when it comes to the branding and linking to both 1908 clubs.. Full Time NSW Cup Side in Campbelltown as Wests Magpies from 2011.

Tigers are OBVIOUSLY still ALIVE so dont let the Magpies die!!!!

Sorry but this is just a lot of rubbish. So basically your indea of 50/50 is to have 2 senior teams called Wests and none called Balmain.

I can just as easily hysertically shout dont let Balmain die but I'm happy for the sole state cup team to be called Wests Tigers. How exactly is the name Wests Tigers not a 50/50 share? And it's hardly the Balmain side's fault the very occasional commentator calls the team Balmain.

Wests have all the money and juniors? Please…

I think the solution is a nsw cup team called wests tigers played out of campbelltown to promote the club to the area and a wests and balmain ryde eastwood in jim beam cup.

Good to see SHEENS theory of one State Cup side with all the NRL players is working for him this year again.

FOOL.

It is great Bug.

The proof is the ease in which every player we have had to call upon has been able to slot into the system because that is how they train, with the Wests Tigers system.

I love watching State Cup but in reality the entire purpose of the State Cup and NYC is to have a structured progression for the step to the NRL when required or talent dictates

I watched the poor old Magpies play Norths on Fox, they are doing it tough especially as Norths had a couple of souths NRL players.

It might be a bit off topic but it's important to note that from 1908 to 1977, Wests was an inner west club with it's home ground being Pratten Park in Ashfield. Wests neighbours were Newtown, Balmain and Canterbury-Bankstown. Wests have only extended their turf to Campbelltown since 1987.

I have a proposition that could end this…..we cab have the State Cup side called Wests Magpies who are the feeder team, and in return we call the NRL team the Balmain Tigers, sound fair??

It is why the NYC needs to be restructured Smeg . What I would like to see is to have the NYC and every club can nominate for instance 6 players each season (up to under 23 age group) Who are allowed to switch between NSW Cup and NYC to try and help the young guys with the step up between NYC and NRL. NSW Cup is definitely not the answer the quality of football (from what I have seen) is barely better . Would also help with the gap the some of the younger smaller players have with making the transition between the two as well . people are continually "What is happening with the smaller players of the game not coming through" One of the reasons is the ones I have just stated Too much of a step up between the 2

Was thinking that myself, this thread only seems to get dredged up when there's not much activity.

Natives must be getting restless.

There is a big difference between NSW Cup and first grade but the Under 20s are even further away from firstgrade, even if they had 6 players up to 23 years old. there will probably be a NRL reserve grade comp eventually (which is basically like nsw cup anyway).

I was at the bar buying beer at the Campbelltown game last nite and i had a Wests Tigers Magpies Heritage jersey on. The girl behind the bar was around 18-20yo. She sad 'can i ask you a silly question ??' i said yes. She asked: How come people are wearing magpies jerseys and jackets tonight? i said.. what do you mean? She said: who are the wests magpies? I had to explain it all to her.. Who Wests Magpies are/were and who Balmain Tigers are/were.. Why they merged and when they merged. I was shocked to be asked such a question at a Campbelltown Home game. Yes i realise younger people may not know the history of wests/balmain and how it all started but this proves to me how little branding and naming recognition goes to the wests side of the joint venture. Fans of all ages should know what the magpie on the WT Sleeve is all about and the history it carries.

the girl who served you at the bar might not really follow footy much at all

Yeah but that gets in the way of the barrow hes trying to push.

And she didnt know balmain either so whats the point if its even true at all that is.

And she might of been 8 when they merged…...rediculous

My point is that there is hardly any recognition to the Wests side of the joint venture (Wests Magpies FC / Wests Ashfield Leagues / Wests Campbelltown Leagues) . The whole point of this forum thread is for Wests Magpies to have at least some identity and recognition by being the sole feeder club to Wests Tigers. We Wests Tigers fans know internally the history and traditions of both 1908 clubs but externally (other club fans and followers of the game) that the history and appreciation is NOT respected or considered or even remembered for most. We are not a St.George take over of Illawarra - we are suppose to be a 50/50 joint venture. It is no longer 1999 and both fans bases have accepted our new club but when 90% of fans, media and commentators call them 'the Tigers' and WT play only 4 games at Campbelltown, its hardly a fair deal for the Wests Group.

If you watched last Sunday's episode of the Sunday Roast on Channel 9, count how many times the 4 panel members mentioned the name Wests Tigers. All references to Saturday nights game was how 'The Tigers' played how 'The Tigers' were lucky etc etc.

We don't seem to here any fans on this forum fighting for BRET to be the sole feeder club to WT - Why? because the tigers already get strong recognition with a mascot and team name plus satisfaction with more inner west/inner city games at leichhardt and SFS.

Don't let the magpie fall off the Heart & Sleeve of WT.

Lol your kidding arent you…...we play 4 games each at both our home grounds and the other at sfs purely a financial decsion just like it was when we played at homebush which is so close to your REAL HOME which is lidcombe all are you forgetting that.yOU GUYS DESERTED IT NOT US.

You got the west we got the tiger its 50-50 you call it west i call it tiger whats the difference i see plenty of times people calling us just west.

By your logic you dont want the magpie to dissapear then what about our balmain where is that on our jersey.

GET OVER IT YOUR LUCKY YOU HAVE A CLUB TO FOLLOW AT ALL AND LETS NOT START ABOUT WHO WAS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CLUB.

And before i hear the same old crap about leagues clubs we both have leagues clubs contributing to the football clubs....penrith have 10 licensed clubs and the football club is apparently struggling financially.

im sorry i guess us ex-Magpies should just shut up and :master: the Balmain side for allowing us to still have some form of exsistance…how dare we want to have equal rights...i noticed a few good points from Bug earlier n i pretty much agree...as an ex-Magpie all i want is equility n to b treated with respect not like a second class citizen...Balmain r no more important than Wests despite the fact that theres a faction of Balmain fans who who seem to look down on Wests...u say Balmain saved Wests ass well do u honestly think Balmain would have survived by themselves? no...there was only 1 other option,a merger with Parra then Balmain would have been the team taken over n u would have had to b the side of the merger who would have had to have to :master: to the other side

GNR4LIFE You really need a lesson in facts if you gonna take aim at Balmain understand this, I voted on the merger and very proud of who we are now but your response holds very little substance.

Balmain merged with Wests because on that night we as members were told that we would not make the top 14 sides to go into the 2000 season remember the CRITERIA. Well when the rankings came out after we had decided to merge Balmain had come in at 14 because Norths were broke. At the time we were sponsored by Meriton and Harry was putting money into the club while the maggies were gone thats right dead, so take a lesson and be humble don't bs parra had no chance merging with the tigers.

No doubt that had Balmain stayed its own entity we would have only made up the numbers today and I will tell you this today no one gives a crap about Balmain or Wests those days are GONE be proud of where you came from but it is time to move on and let go.

The Wests Tigers have won a premiership and Iwas around to see it thats whats important not your trivial one eyed rubbish that accounts for nothing. Get a life and appreciate what you have you bunch of clowns

We should be playing 6 games at Campbelltown, not 4\. Campbelltown Council has acted on every piece of feedback from Wests Tigers (improved corporate facilities, increased seating & capacity), but yet Campbelltown only gets 4 games. Why?

Because Leichhardt Oval is an antiquated ground for NRL matches due to poor corporate facilities and seating. It is due to the state of Leichhardt Oval that we have to use the SFS has to supplement our home games. Imagine the uproar if we played 6 games at Campbelltown and only 4 at Leichhardt. I bet all your toys would be thrown out of the cot, but in reality, that is what should be happening based on merit. What has Leichhardt Council done to improve the ground? Nothing and we have to continually play at the SFS.

By the way, Western Suburbs started at Pratten Park and then moved to Lidcombe, prior to taking advice from the NSWRL to move to Campbelltown. May pay to read up on the history of the club, I hate to put facts in the way of the barrow you are pushing.

We go to the SFS because we are guaranteed money from every single game we play there.

If Campbelltown Council will guarantee the same income regardless of weather I would happily play 6 games out of Campbelltown.

Reality is that is has nothing to do with Campbelltown and Leichhardts facilities. It is a move based in corporate reality and sustainable funding and, hopefully, never having to rely on Leagues club grants for survival
