Stadium Plan

I honestly wouldn't change a thing about either Leichhardt Oval or Campbelltown Stadium. LO is freaking awesome and Campbelltown is a vibe on its day as well.

Just play footy. If you want to have a prawn sandwich up in a private box, that's what the Waratahs or Swans are for. Both our traditional grounds work fine and remember its still only 5 games at each every season.

Honestly, great news for the whole joint venture.
I am still yet to visit Leichhardt Oval. Hopefully the Glen Morrison toilets are still there when I do.

PRIVATE INVESTMENT PUSH
There is a general agreement that Leichhardt and Campbelltown require a refurbishment in line with other NRL grounds – and that could mean private investment.

“We all readily acknowledge that Leichhardt needs work and it’s not of NRL standard as far as change rooms and corporate facilities,” Hagipantelis said.

“There was, of course, a promise of $50m which the Government reneged on and, unfortunately, there isn’t an election – state or Federal – for quite some time so it will be difficult for us to bring any pressure to bear on government to fund any upgrade to Leichhardt Oval.

“But we are in earnest discussions with council – Campbelltown, Liverpool and the Inner-West – about what can be done to raise funding and we are prepared to explore all options, including private equity into the stadiums, if available, to help fund refurbishments of those stadiums.

“We would even be open, and in fact encourage, private equity. We’re exploring those opportunities; investors who are prepared to invest in the redevelopment of a stadium for a return on that investment whereby they would have an equitable holding in those facilities, an ownership share.

“There would be some arrangement made where they receive a return on their investment as a joint venture with council, who are open to discuss the opportunity but there would be a detailed and lengthy process to get through from a council perspective.

“I can’t envisage any scenario where Wests Tigers will not play at Leichhardt Oval in the future. Leichhardt Oval is an institution and it will always figure largely in the Wests Tigers calendar so the suggestion we will never play another game there has got no basis or merit whatsoever.”
If I was Anthony Field I would put money towards LO. It would certainly cement the memory of the Balmain side of the JV. If I was HarryT I would do something about the Balmain leagues club. But easy for me to spend other peoples money.

I'm in my 30's you joker. We're a joint venture
the last time I checked. Splitting games gives
both sides of the merger a chance to watch the
club play. NSW cup team should be rebranded 2
As the Magpies own 90% of Our joint Venture why would they want or need to cut the history of the Magpie from the NRL.

I think there is a fair argument for our reserve grade (KOE) team to be branded Wests Tigers the same as our NRL team.

Some of our top 30 players that we draw on for NRL selection are playing in that KOE side as well as many players that we can select in the later part of each season to cover injury and to reward them for good performance by exposing them to the top grade.

By drawing on our reserves from a differently branded team than our top NRL side makes us no better than the likes of the Roosters or Cronulla who every year have to go out and make a deal with a feeder club like Wyong, North Sydney, Newtown etc.

Don't get me wrong, we are a merger between 2 foundation clubs with a rich history and that will always be the case but we are now a merged Wests Tigers and that has to be the future.

We can still have lower/junior grades under the old foundation club banners and play out of traditional grounds like Lidcombe Oval, but the aim and what young players should be striving for is to eventually play for the Wests Tigers.

Dear god we must be the only organization to agree to something with no idea how/where the funding is coming from. We need it to be improved for this to work but hopefully someone will cough up....
Complete opposite of build it and they will come. Its play in a field and hope it becomes befitting of a professional RL team. Jesus wept...
What have we "agreed to"? The line is we want to play out of Leichhardt and Campbelltown, both grounds need upgrading and the club is actively involved in discussions to fund said upgrades. Do you think businesses never publish targets or goals?

I'd imagine the only way to sort it would be to make it multilevel
I haven't had too much of an issue getting in or out of Leichhardt for a while now...whether it's because crowds are down or what, but I don't think it's as bad as people make out....
Getting out of the carpark at moore park...now there is a chunk of your life you'll never get back.

I'm up on the Gold Coast 2 min away from the stadium at Robina everytime people complain about parking they forget the poor Titans supporters who don't have any at all. It's drop off around the corner and walk, or train to Robina station. In this day and age it's crazy.

Good to see Darcy putting forward an actual proposal. However, he wants to keep it at 18k capacity. Ideally we would want 25k capacity I would have thought.

$100 million fir the lot to be built including the caretakers cottage turned into a rugby league museum dedicated to balmain, Magpies, globe, newton etc
Mate mate what about the toilets they have to be heritage listed make them into a museum so many bad memories of the smell on a warm day

  • Haha
Reactions: BZN
He made a very good point and this should get approved.

Panthers have a better stadium now and are getting a new one worth 300mil and it gets used 11 times a year.. YES 11 times a year
Leichhardt is used all year round by all sports for Girls and boys so this should be a no brainer IMO

Yep. I really hope a proposal gets the green light eventually.

Actions speak louder than words though.

Leichhardt is our one and only fortress.

What's is there currently is suitable for the other sports that use it. Allianz and Homebush are too close for a govt to justify spending for our 5 games. IMO.
