Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Flippers has to be top of the list hasn’t he then Simpkin? Those two are terrible and would barely make it out of reserve grade. But we are stuck with them as everyone knows it.

AJ has utility value. Can play wing, 2nd row/centre
Still a good footballer. His eyes were undoing
him but yeah. Decent value, not a 1 trick pony
He had a baby and lasik surgery last year I
beleive. Still has promise, he's good with me

Has filled those positions, doesn’t mean he can play them.

No way has to go asap. Worst player we have closely followed by simplekin.

Cleary and Luai. Oh yeah, they were winning together when they were what, 20, 21?
they're an exception because they've played with each other for ages from juniors. Very rare that you see clubs have two juniors who played together in juniors so much transition together to first grade. But still, my point stands. There's no successful halves combination that doesn't have a veteran in there. Chucking two rookies in won't work. Look at Mam and Reynolds even

There’s multiple ways to move this squad.

We have the manly/melb approach. Where you invest heavily in your starting team, but injuries can cruel your season.

Or in our case, where we talk about AJ, and blore (on current form, not potential) starting. We need depth. We need higher quality players across our squad in general.

People fighting for positions, because of a higher performing player in front of them. Not getting the call up because they are the best of what is left.

Olam fits that bill. Towards the end of the career, but is fighting for a starting spot every week.

Outside of that we strategically target the big fish, and hope we nab one. Like an api etc.

There’s currently a big gap between our young ones coming through and our best 10 or so. Thats where we need to start to fill. If we can snag a genuine first grader in the outside backs, forwards and spine (Sezer fits that). We will improve if we can bridge that gap.

I never thought Junior Pagau would get a run in the NRL after some very poor performances with us a couple of seasons ago, and there he is in the Roosters line up on numerous occasions last season doing a decent job and re signed. AJ could certainly find a place somewhere and go OK.

Haha. We're hard task masters around here lol
Not really, I remember him dropping Benji passes that hit on the chest. How many years ago was that? Flippers is rubbish and should have been punted then but know he is still here stinking it up and costing us a spot. If we had that spot we could just buy Olam and not have to loose Blore. I can’t believe there’s others out there that still want him in the nrl side.

Hard ro predict flanno or hasler would do any better.

Is the root cause of our issues coaching?
CMON!

Look Hasler went into a Manly side that was struggling under Trent Barrett and totally got them firing. Sure it's Manly a club where he is kinda like their favourite black sheep. Sure he cheated heavily at the Bulldogs but hey he got the club to the finals! (from memory it was his Dog team that kicked our butts).

100% Hasler with the 2023 squad would get us 12th, minimum. More then that if Hasler coached the Tigers for 4 years we would get a finals appearance, min top 4 at least once.

Flanno, Yea... IMHO our biggest mistake was picking Gartiner as the assistant to Madge instead of Flanno + Cayless. Flanno wouldn't have gotten us 17th with the 2023 squad and at Cronulla he focused on the forwards so I think he would have done the same here. Could see Bula playing a very similar role to Barba at Cronulla.

2022 totally different ballgame. Ofcourse Hasler wasn't on the market then but if he was with us no wooden spoon. Flanno and almost all coaches would have struggled. I reckon we wouldn't be spooners in either case.
