Jason Cayless

Great News - An experienced front rower will be great for the Squad.
Not just on game day but on the training paddock as well.

We have plenty of talent to develop in the next couple of seasons.

WESTS Tigers put Jason Cayless under the microscope physically before signing him to a two-year deal, chief executive Stephen Humphreys said yesterday.

"We offered him a deal only after receiving assurances from our own medical staff that his body could stand up to a return to the NRL," Humphreys said.

Cayless, 29, prematurely ended his contract with English Super League giants St Helens in mid-September after failing to recover from a shoulder injury.

The 194cm prop had also been plagued by a knee-ligament injury and, although he made 83 appearances for St Helens, he hadn't played since April.

He was a member of Saints' Challenge Cup-winning teams in 2006 and 2007 and was also a Super League grand final winner in 2006.

He won an NRL premiership ring as well with the Sydney Roosters in 2002.

A former Kiwi international, Cayless further strengthens the Tigers' forward pack. The club is still chasing Melbourne and current Kiwis prop Jeff Lima, but that now seems unlikely to happen.

"It is great to be back in Australia playing in the NRL competition with a club heading in the right direction such as the Wests Tigers," Cayless said in a statement yesterday.

"I can't wait to play with the likes of Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, Gareth Ellis and the boys under Tim Sheens."

Sheens, the Australia coach, said Cayless was a quality signing for the club.

"Jason will add a lot of depth and experience to the pack and will provide invaluable leadership to the strong crop of exciting young forwards coming through," he said.

Cayless will now line up once again against older brother Nathan, the Parramatta captain.

Jason had three years at the Eels before joining the Roosters in 2002.

Meanwhile, Wests Tigers still remain hopeful of striking a deal with dual international Lote Tuqiri.

Tuqiri, 30, was sacked by the Australian Rugby Union in August and has offers rugby clubs in Europe and Japan.

But the Tigers believe they can convince him to return to the NRL.

this is good news.
welcome to wests-tigers Jason enjoy your time here.
( does this mean that Skando won't be playing next year. that would be a shame because I would like to see both Skando and Jason Cayless on the field at the same time)

This is a great signing for many reasons. He will really come in hand around origin time if Galloway tays fit and gets a run next year, i know he was close this year. Ive also said many times (although not on here, but to mates) that Gibbs isnt a starting front rower, he is a bench prop. Dont get me wrong, i think Gibbs is a good player, I just think he plays his best when he comes off the bench. I hope Skando goes around again, he's still got it too. Can see payten playing more of a backrower nest year.
10-Galloway
9-Farah
8-Cayless
11-Ellis
12-Payten
13-Heighninton
14-Gibbs
15-Skando
16-Lima(hopefully)
17-???? A utility

Thats a weapon pack….you could have Fulton ot Taumata as the 17.

Definitely size and metres and the blokes coming on would add something for sure.

Great News a REAL prop joining the ranks for 2 years..Jason will also help bring on the Young props from the toyota cup squad..I just hope he is not a crock injury wise….

Good signing by all involved at the tigers but i must admit im not as excited as most are on the forum.Im a bit weary of his bunged shoulders but he has obviously passed a medical so hopefully it won't come back to haunt us like it did with O'Hara
At least we are being pro active in the market for props cause most of us including me were sceptical about the tigers recruitment in this area
Anyway as it stands with official signings i would go with this this pack
8.Gibbs
10.Galloway
11.Ellis
12.Heinington
13.Fulton

14.(utility)
15.Cayless
16.Payton
17.Moors

I like the pack above compared to the person who listed 3 props on the bench??? Fair dinkum.
Cayless a good signing. We just now need 1 more forward, be it a prop (cause you can move pays to the backrow) or a backrower (we dont have as many good backrowers as people say)

Can I go out on a limb and call Moors the dark horse of the pack? Looks like he is going to be surrounded by some good forwards and he will need to step up to stay in the FG side. Think this will be very good for him.

You question 3 props on the bench…but then want us to sign another prop? Where do we put him then...in premier league? How many props did Melbourne have on the bench this year in the grand final? I think they won the premiership too!? If we sign Lima, he can also play backrow...he has done that before for melbourne, and I think Sheens has named Gibbs in the 2nd row once before. So anyway we could sit here arguing for hours...but lets see your team than champ!

I have that feeling too. He is potentially the only type of forward that we lack, a fast hard running secondrower a la Pritchard. He could fill the whole left by Harrison, Teo & Laurie.

I think the change of scenery will do him good and I;m expecting a big impact from him.

Great news that the club have finally signed a prop. I'm particularly excited by the fact that the club

are not promoting him as our "marquee" player for next year (although he has won NRL and Super League

premierships and played for NZ). This leaves the marquee player spot open for - Lote? 😛ray:

We already got Robbie and Benji in the Marquee space I beleive - Can someone confirm??

Great News About Cayless.

At 29 he is still got some good years left if managed correctly.
–-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No need to kill ourselves to get Jeff Lima as the team has a good mix of Experiance and youth.

There is nothing worse than letting a promising Junior move on to make his mark ar a rival club.

Looks like this time Skando will be saying goodbye - Truly a Club Great

Finally - Look out Bryce gibbs - More of the same should see you being offloaded to England

i dont really know or remember much about j cayless, but i am very happy to see the tigers active in the recruitment stakes. for so long it seemed the club was a one way turnstile with decent players leaving and not really being well replaced (ellis the exception).
personally, i am hoping this signing really puts the pressure on gibbs, because while i think he improved a lot last season i think he still has a fair way to go before being considered a good nrl prop.

PS - anyone who says "my bad" needs to check their birth certificate - & if born after 2000 you're okay - if not put your head in a ******* incinerator (strictly for the view)!!!!

Hahaha…..took me a while to work 'my bad' out....its a bit like "Woot woot!"
