I don’t know guys, while I’m hoping Latrell is just sorting out his future etc, can’t help but think he truly wants to be at Souths, Bennett, rusty, the aboriginal heritage, Inglis on the coaching staff.
I know a lot of cards have to fall in place for him to go to souths, but it’s a worry when they have burgess payed out and not included in their cap at such a timely manner.
I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to souths player contracts, anyone know exactly what cards must fall into place for souths to land LM?

Basically they would need to not re-sign Walker, release him immediately.
Or release Johnston, effective immediately. Possibly even release both.
Plus accept that they will have one of the worst packs in the game. Knight, T Burgess, Tatola, Lowe, Britt, plus Cook and Murray. Hardly a pack that creates fear in the minds of opponents, but if they sign up Mitchell instead of of a forward then that's what they'll have.

The other option is they sign Arrow and he gets an immediate release, but then they still don't have enough money to sign Mitchell without releasing a player like gagai.

Roosters will not give them a cent, you can be certain of that. Why would they??!

Good point by Andrew Webster in the SMH.

“......Given the size of the offers from the Tigers and Roosters, would the NRL be prepared to register a contract with a base salary that is considerably less? Under the game’s rules, a contract can’t be registered if the player is being paid well below his market value.....”

So technically he can’t sign with Souths for less than his market value..... unless the NRL change to rules and allow it to occur...

But trust the NRL to make a exception for South Sydney.

What a ridiculous article that one is from Webster, who is normally decent.

Basically...

"Depends on how much the Roosters will chip in for him to play for Souths".

That is ridiculous.

He starts off "saga expected to end this week".

Then talks up Rabbits changing their mind, before mentioning the 27 things the Rabbits would need to do to secure Mitchell, most of which are not within their direct control - finalise Walker/Arrow, offload a player, organise TPAs.

Then finishes "if Souths are to sign Latrell, they have their work to do".

Sorry SMH that's hot hot hot garbage and Webster can do a lot better.

If LM signs with us for one year and one year only, it will put this club backwards and undo all the good work Madge is trying to do.

If we can't get him for at least 3, and backend the deal a little to entice him to stay the full length of the contract, then we move on and try for someone else, for 2021 if need be,

How would it?

Not as though we have many options of his quality to join us for next year and then the year after etc.

If we perform it might build our profile and give it a kick in the market place.

If there isn’t a better option for next year what do we have to lose? No benefit in not using the cap space and we can’t front load contracts anymore.

Not sure if it's just me... But it feels like the quality of "journalism" is getting worse by the day

It isn't just you. Magazines are dying and papers are slowly following them.

What do you mean you can't front load contracts anymore? Do you know what the rule was that they must have brought in about that?

You can’t severely backload contracts . Not front load . It’s to do with Hassler and even Sheens , destroying clubs , for the pursuit of 1premiership season . Front loading isn’t an issue as players are paid , and there’s no Newcastle type rebuilds, which hurts the overall product .

After reading the article, does anyone else feel there will be a “Welcome to Alex Johnston” thread starting on Monday after Latrelle signs with Souths?

They will want to off load him and we will probably be dumb enough to pick him up.

That or welcome Dane Gagai topic

If Souths call themselves the indigenous club why would they offload Gagai and Johnston?

No quotes on the Jan 1 deadline. The rest is the same copy and paste stuff by “staff writers”.

That's simple

LM is a superstar

Gagai and AJ are crap

The NRL will do anything to keep Souths happy

I don't truly believe Souths get any preferential outcomes compared to Tigers. What is the evidence?

Or he signs with us and we have a superstar FB that kicks goals and wins games.

And puts bums on seats.....Id love to see him at Leichhardt the big crowd would be loving him!! Especially if he was smashing tries!!

From all the rumours it seems that Mitchell would rather play with his mates Cody Walker and James Roberts and be mentored by Inglis - even if it means he gets less money and a couple of other Kooris get the boot from Souths.
If thats's the case the club did the right thing by pulling the offer and leaving the ball in his court.
Walker seems level headed (although I disagree with his stance on singing the anthem) but the other two are gooses.
Makes you wonder which side Latrell fits into?

This may have been raised previously but Souths having lost 2 Burgess brothers, John Sutton from their starting 17 as well as back up forwards Turner & Britt so would seriously be in need of NRL standard forwards but other than possibly signing Arrow have not bought anyone of note. Given they have all their backline positions covered, presume Doueihi first choice fullback ahead of AJ, plus halves sorted if Walker re-signs, Gagai & Roberts centres and Campbell & AJ wingers, not to mention Burns and a PNG fulback they signed then Souths have no real pressing need of LM. Given their lack of forward depth you would think this would be a more pressing issue than signing LM.
