Melbourne are going to love having JAC on the end of their backline this year. His pace is such a weapon.

He is looking good, but Col doesn't rate him.

Are the nay Sayers going to comment on Brooks kicking game against Brisbane?

bahahaha!!!!
If a halfback can't get a kicking game right in a 9's format his got no hope , you have open space everywhere and if you kick early just like the Panthers did to Parra and have pace ? it becomes a foot race like when Blake beat French for pace in the semis .

So Brooks is in for a big year ? can't wait his finally going to give some value back to the Club on a consistent basis .
If he played crap the last game ? the Brooks lovers would of come out and said it's only a 9's format what relevance does that have to a 13 a side game ?

Imagine how good we would be in the 13 man game if we let Brooks play both sides of the ruck & run the game like this! One of the biggest hand-breaks Taylor puts on our halves is making them play left & right. They have the ability & experience playing with each other to play as genuine first & second receiver & I think this game (even though it's 9s) has showed how good we could be with Brooks in total control.

Can't disagree with your thoughts there Benjirific, but it still concerns me that both Moses and Brooks play heaps better when they aren't actually together on the field! I can't work this out at all, they've played all their footy together, yet they often look quite lost when they're on the field at the same time. I can only put it down to a battle for control of the plays - if so, they need to sort it out pronto, otherwise one of them will have to go!

I actually believe that the drop in performance when they are both on the field together relates back to the structure they are ask to play. It is the fact when they both play they are playing as left and right halves, they play better as a half and 5/8th, allowing them to play both sides of the field. When one of them is out this structure is relaxed and they are allowed more freedom over the field.

So your concerns actually relate back to the post you quoted.

Yes spot on Cochise! I wonder if the coaches will be willing to yield and change the playing structure this season. Playing left and right side halves clearly hasn't worked to the benefit of the team, so why persist with it?

It is a hard one though as we are at our most potent from sweeps where Teddy chimes into the backline and plays what would traditionally be the 5/8th type role, Moses at his best is fulfilling a similar role.

Our structure for the past 2 years is to set up centre field, then have brooks and moses either side of the ruck and run a sweep play to one side with teddy injecting himself into the backline. Its all about getting the balance right, playing a traditional half and 5/8th could possibly run Teddy out of room, but it would also allow him to utilise different strength as well. Such as hitting the holes created by Moses.

I think to get the most out of our players and to create the variety in attack we have been lacking we need to overall our structure, I would start by removing the restrictions on our playmakers and allow them to control the game, not just 50% of it. Brooks would be my half. The game would be his responsibility. I would stop trying to aim for the centre of the field to set up our attacking plays, this would allow moses to play the 5/8th role and for Teddy to add some variety to his game by being a ball runner as well as a playmaker, this will make him much harder to contain.

Any of you who give us a hope this year willing to put your money where your mouth is?
PM me.
Instead of arguing about it on here if you really honestly think we will go good, have a bet.

Wouldn't hurt throwing $50 on us to make the 8\. That's about as adventurous as I get when it comes to gambling.

What's wrong with Rankin on the wing ?

Exactly! JT definitely chose to keep the right one :brick:

The difference Flip is that great Coaches can pick out talent when they see it .

Yeah I've always wondered why the Dogs let Thurston go…

Or why Tommy Raudonikis thought JT was too small , especially when he introduced us to a little blonde half back from Ipswich and fought Wally in the press to get him playing for Qld after Laurie Spina totally outplayed him in the only trial Qld had for SOO selection

Paul Green let Ponga go. Shocking coach.

Paul Green does not pick a plodder every week regardless of how bad he performs, or pick a plodder out of position on the wing, then move him out of position to hooker every game either.
