well the good thing is that he has been charged in the USA and he will get a jail term this time around, heres hoping.

Odds are, he won't do prison time. His high profile criminal lawyer would see to that.
Also the fact that it's his first offence there in the USA, would see him get off.

He had only been there a couple of days, so you would certainly hope it was his first offence TM. Trouble is he committed another few criminal acts after the first one, thus an extended stay is very likely.

Can't disagree with you FG. Will see how it pans out for him, in February. Hope he learns from all of this. A good start would be to apologise to his parents, victims and everyone else he's let down or harmed in any way.

Feel a little bit of sympathy for Lodge's parents as they would be disappointed in the realization that their precious child is a moron. As for Lodge himself no sympathy whatsoever, no use bowing your head and acting like a frightened little schoolgirl now that you are being forced to face the music buddy, should of thought of your actions a bit more while you were scaring the hell out of young women here and abroad. Time to face the consequences like the big man you thought you were carrying on like this in the first place.
Had an absolute gutful of people making excuses for idiots like this bloke.

matthew lodge has to wait until february before his sentencing- judgement ,what ever they call it in america.if it was me ,the waiting until february would be agony.

pardon my ignorance, but why is it with our judicial system some criminal acts are heard in court the next day.when you listen to the news, the reporter invariably says the accused will appear in court tomorrow.

do court hearings get rearranged due to the severity of the crime?

is it a bit like emergency rooms in hospitals where you can sit for hours and be gazumped by more serious cases?

any help with this one.

Courts in america are different to Australia, they may have fewer courts which means a longer wait.

There would be many factors…
Victims recovery for statements
Police requesting time for evidence.
Medical reports.
Holiday season
Backlog of other cases
Defences buying time

Not sure if its been mentioned and no expert on the US legal system but apparently the guy he hit can take civil action against him so this whole saga could draw out for Months or years whether he gets jail time or not,it will financially ruin his family as well if they decide to help.

In NSW, the police usually take the alleged offender before a magistrate the next day so that the issue of bail can be sorted out. Whether the offender gets bail or remains in custody on remand, the actual trial may not take place for up to a year and sometimes longer. The USA is similar with people in jail awaiting trial for long periods of time.

Hope this helps.

On the 13th of oct i got a text out of the blue from my best mates wife asking me if i knew a Tigers player named Matt Lodge. I immediately thought the worst, i preceded to tell her what i knew about him (most of it from what i'd read on here) i basically told her he's been in trouble a few times and id say he's on thin ice at the Tigers. She said he's one of her clients and he seems to think he's safe at the Tigers. We left it at that until i got another text from her on the 19th oct saying "did you see our friend Matt got arrested?" with a link to the news clip. my wife showed me the clip earlier that day, i replied " i told you he had issues". It was almost like she knew something was on the cards how random and out of left field her original text was.

As expected, more trouble for Lodge:

Australian rugby league player Matthew Lodge could be liable to pay millions of dollars in compensation to the alleged victims of a rampage in New York for which he already faces criminal charges.

Lodge was arrested and charged for allegedly stalking two women and assaulting a man on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on the night of 16 October. During the incident he is alleged to have told the women “this is the night you die”, before wrecking an apartment occupied by another woman and her son.

The 20-year-old former Sydney Wests Tigers prop is on bail and due to face criminal charges over the incident, which occurred while he was on holiday in New York.

Lawyers for three of Lodge’s alleged victims filed a civil complaint against him on Monday in the US district court for the southern district of New York. The plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial and claiming compensation for damage to property, mental anguish and punitive damages for the effects of the alleged incident.

The plaintiffs are Carolin Dekeyser, one of the women allegedly stalked by Lodge; Joseph Cartright, whom Lodge is claimed to have assaulted when he tried to calm Lodge down; and Ruth Fowler, Cartright’s wife, who was in the apartment with their son when Lodge allegedly broke in and wreaked havoc.

The New York law firm Wigdor LLP is representing the plaintiffs. The case is being handled by partners Jeanne Christensen and Douglas Wigdor, who represented the New York hotel maid who claimed she was assaulted by Dominic Strauss-Kahn. If a jury finds against Lodge he could be liable for millions of dollars in compensation including for alleged lasting mental trauma to a nine-year-old child.

In their claim, the plaintiffs allege that Dekeyser, who was visiting New York from Germany, and a friend found themselves harassed by Lodge outside the apartment building where they were staying. After asking them to return to Australia with him, Lodge allegedly told them “this is the night you die” and forced his way into a small entrance hall to the building with them.

The women rang the bells of the apartment building and Cartright, a fashion photographer, came out to see what was happening, the plaintiffs claim. Cartright tried to calm the former rugby player, but Lodge put him in a headlock and repeatedly punched him in the left ear and skull before barricading himself inside Cartright’s and Fowler’s apartment, smashing property and trying to force his way into the bathroom, where Fowler and the couple’s son, aged nine, were hiding, the claim says.

Fowler and other residents of the building had called the police and when officers arrived Lodge threw a two-litre bottle of wine out of the apartment door at them, the claim says. The police entered the apartment with their guns out to find Lodge cowering in a bedroom cupboard, it goes on to say.

Wigdor and Christensen said: “Our clients were all innocent victims that were forced to endure what can only be described as bizarre and violent conduct by Mr Lodge. We will utilise all of our resources to ensure that he is held accountable for his actions.”

Lodge faces two felony burglary charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. A judge ordered Lodge on 21 October to stay away from his alleged victims and the court heard that he had surrendered his passport. Lodge’s father arrived in New York soon after the alleged incident and bail of $20,000 (£13,500) cash and a bond guarantee of $30,000 were posted to secure his release from a Rikers Island facility.

Wests Tigers tore up Lodge’s contract after the latest in a succession of controversies. He had not played since August, when the club stood him down following assault charges and a provisional apprehended domestic violence order.

Lodge’s New York-based lawyer declined to comment when contacted by the Guardian on Tuesday.

Leaving aside for the moment the several serious criminal complaints against Lodge, these ridiculous civil claims are nothing more than ambulance chasing. One of the many reasons why lawyers in the US are often regarded with contempt

His poor parents.
Ulimately they will be out of pocket and possibly bankrupt and a son doing a decade minimum in prison.
They should just cut him loose and let him pay for his crimes.

Maybe if criminals were held accountable for their actions with compensation to their victims, our legal system would not be such a joke!

His life is pretty much set out for him at this point. He'll probably be a 40 yr dole blugger regaling everyone at his local about the star he was going to be. That's if he still isn't rotting in a a US jail when he's 40.

He could be sued for millions? Seriously? they must think he's loaded. That he's some sort of football super star here in Oz Land. 😱pen_mouth:

I presume was under the influence of alcohol, if the case it is sad that family and societal counselling has not weaned him off alcohol altogether much earlier. If due to some other substance then you can't help them much - they always know better.

I only wished the title of this thread could be what WT team could say to opposing teams.
