Pascoe sanctioned by the NRL

You must have read a different response to the one i read. Yes the club admitted making a mistake by not notifying the NRL. They also said that mistake was made with no intention of cheating. There was also no mention of hiding a contract. Why not just stick to what was actually in the response rather than what’s in your head.

It is not in my head, that is exactly what the NRL accused us of. In our response we didnt deny those allegations?

What the hell does this unit do? It is the equivalent of police only solving crimes where the perpetrator confesses. A doctor that can only treat patients who tell them what is wrong. A mechanic who will fix your car if you tell him whats wrong and turn up with part, tools and an instruction manual.

This sums up the absolute incompetency of the NRL.

Exactly right. Greenberg says over and over "we can only act on the evidence put in front of us". All they do is put out fires when they should be looking for arsonists.

I posted what I was told can’t name people on a forum. We accepted the punishment and apologised.NRL rarely get actual breaches wrong sadly it was a black and white issue.

I dont like the fact we are being punished for non disclosure as we didn’t actually breach the monetary cap we are and have been under the cap since the deal was offered.

A fine should have been the punishment only NRL went too far.

If we had of included Robbies $639K in the cap like we should have, would we have still been under?

Unfortunately I made an error - forgive me.

I actually answered your post (a post that calls people on this Forum names).

You'll be pleased it won't happen again.

At the end of the day, its a done deal and we just have to accept it. Im ropable at the whole situation from the breach (not even a decent one), to the NRLs punishment and to our ability to challenge the result. Management have obviously been given some definite legal advise regarding our ability to win in a court of law, so we have to suck it up. Like someone said earlier, if Ivan never brought Robbie back would we be in the current situation? Maybe not now, but theyd get us at some stage and probably the night before we played in the NRL GF.

My take is if we disclosed we intend to pay Farah $639K over 4 years post retirement then everything would have been sweet..I doubt the whole $639K would have had to be counted in the cap in that 1 year more spread over 4 years which may still have put us over the cap in those years but we didn't …so

Ok, thanks @Geo. Just wish we had of done what we were supposed to do and this mess could have been avoided.

"Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe will be allowed to return to the game on June 19 after serving a six-month suspension and the club will be forced to operate $320,000 below the salary cap for each of the next two seasons after deceiving the NRL over an ambassadorship agreement with Robbie Farah.

**The $639,000 ambassadorship agreement was signed on the same day as a termination deal between Farah and the Tigers in 2016 but hidden from the NRL.**

Pascoe later made a 101A application to the NRL for salary cap dispensation and claimed the Tigers had needed to remove Farah from the club because he was a destabilising influence.

The NRL was presented with two lever arch files to support the club's case and the ambassadorship agreement was never disclosed.

Had it been, the NRL would have included the $639,000 in the Tigers' salary cap as it had text messages which suggested Farah only agreed to leave the club after being guaranteed the four-year ambassadorship deal.

The NRL has approved ambassadorship deals for Anthony Minichiello in his final year with Sydney Roosters and Billy Slater at the Storm but Farah left the Tigers in acrimonious circumstances after a falling out with former coach Jason Taylor."

People here will still argue it.

Great post. I agree with all you say. I posted last night that I think it is very sad that an outstanding leader at governance level is basically washing her hands of our game. She sees the inequity and incompetence and obviously has concluded- life’s too short! THIS IS ON YOUR HEAD GREENBERG.

Ms Go was always planning to move on soon ..this may be the straw and agree with you both she will be a loss to the game and Wests Tigers..

The amount of Corporate dollars alone she has acquired for Wests Tigers over her tenure shouldn't be underestimated..

So I Hope succession planning is in place for when she hangs up her heels. We need an astute, proven leader - not someone who was a development officer (looking at you Greenberg).
Seriously though, we need continued high quality governance.

My question is this yet again …...

Why did the NRL allow the deal to go through in the 1st place

We spoke about it when Robbie got his life membership ...why doesn't the NRL become pro active and say that is against the rules and you'll be fined

And again if the NRL was angry about us asking for cap relief when we paid Robbie out ...stop us from signing him back

Isn't that what an empathetic employer does ....act pro actively

I think that Marina Go will move on once Pascoe is back and settled in.
This will be a huge blow unless she is replaced by someone with the same business acumen as her.
I hope that she isn’t replaced by some football meat head.

Interview on nrl.com where she was asked if she had resigned - she refused to directly answer but indicated she was never staying too long

Wouldn't Wests Ashfield decide who becomes our new chair? Not sure how the process works. If someone knows, feel free to share
