Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You have no idea what other ventures he has on the horizon outside of football. Something that doesn’t involve not only uprooting his family, and playing for a potential bottom 4 side, but also putting himself through a gruelling pre-season.
Correct. I don't.

I was pointing out a clear and obvious duality between retiring to return to the regular workforce, which is the case for the vast, vast majority of NRL footballers or continuing what is a well-remunerated, privileged and fortunate career.

There's nothing overly contentious about my original post and you're being contrarian for the sake of it.

You're not very good at it, obviously, being you 🙂.

Don't mistake this for support of signing Felise, but if you can't easily see the allure of continuing to play football, even on a modest contract of $2/300k for example, instead of retiring and returning to the regular workforce on $27.42 an hour carting barrows of concrete 8 hours a day, then I don't know what to tell you.

I would consider uprooting the family to the Siberian tundra for 12 months if it meant I could earn that kind of money playing football.
You don't need to tell me anything?
I like how you find the bottom of the barrel wage rate you can like he's going to get a job in Subway or something.
By your own logic, He could also go play Japanese Rugby for another 3 years for much more money than he'll make in the NRL - At the Tigers. Or a stint in France with his family for a couple years....
All far more appealing than the Tigers in Sydney would be at the moment (Probably even the Subway gig)

You may see Allure - I see ridiculous speculation and mostly fantasy - at best.

have you ever considered that rugby league players might, in fact, like playing rugby league?
Might, in fact - Like Carpentry as well (And hate Pre-seasons)

Given what just happened with Galvin, plus the players who walked out on the club last year, you’d think people wails be a little more sheepish on why we are such an attractive destination, but apparently not.

I pointed out something you acknowledged, then take an each way bet and say I’m being contrarian?

yes, let's look at one 19-year-old mercenary who has jumped from club to club from the moment he was shot out of the womb as the only example of whether we are an attractive destination or not, as opposed to the club's recruitment record over the last 18 months. what a foolproof idea.

Let’s also look at Stef, Ice and Bateman. But hey, never the club who might have to look at themselves. Always someone else’s fault.

don't shift the goalposts any further or I'll start calling you Gus. you were implying that we aren't an attractive destination to potential external recruits.

Terrell May, Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva and Royce Hunt all came from top four clubs last year to play for Wests Tigers this year. I can guarantee you there'll be more to come.

maybe you should put a mirror next to your bed so you can wake up to yourself.

I love Luai, but we all know what got him to the club. May, love the guy, but he was unwanted. Turuva had his cousin here. I’m not even going to acknowledge the 15 minute man. I wouldn’t be touting him mate.

It’s pretty obvious we aren’t an attractive destination. Similar to Haas as Reed alluded to last night…players want to win

you're still missing the point.

all of them were pursued by rival clubs. they all chose us, despite the fact that we were anchored to the bottom of the ladder for three years.

It’s hilarious how butthurt a lot of you are over this.
I never once saw this narrative from you or anyone else about this kid last year, he was the second coming of Fittler and could do no wrong.
Our recruitment is getting better but it’s still in deficit. We’ve lost more than we gained and of those we gained….
Luai - No where near earning his salary. Lost his Origin jersey for good reason.
May - excellent.
Turuva - really good, bordering on great at times.
Bird - average.
Hunt - lazy and ineffective
Skelton - good but missed twice as many games as he has played.
By my count we’ve had two really good wins in recruitment, and another 2 who could be great - one has to pull his finger out and the other needs to get healthy.
I’ll withhold judgement entirely until the season concludes but the hive mind opinion on here that our recruitment is kicking huge goals doesn’t hold much weight currently.

How do you know who they were pursued by? The only one Id say for sure would be Luai. The rest is just conjecture. Given how May seems to have been blackballed for Origin, whose to say other clubs didn’t take the same stance. Hunt definitely wasn’t pursued. He was retiring.

I acknowledged simply the fact that, in Felise's specific case, I don't know what he has on offer post-football. But that wasn't my point.

And yes. You're a contrarian.

You present counter arguments to statements or assertions for the sake of it. Not for any purpose.

I was floating the idea that it is not inconceivable that somebody would continue their playing career, even if for a modest contract which included a move.

And, what? you decided to present a counter that it IS inconceivable...?

Incase you aren’t aware, there are two of us. @batboy and I arguing the same point. So hardly contrarian.

My understanding is:

If a court says he’s guilty, that’s still bad.

The DV charge was only withdrawn because the prosecution witnesses didn’t come to court. It wasn’t withdrawn because the Police thought they didn’t have a case. They just couldn’t prove it.

At least he went off for counselling etc, so he’s got some insights.

Yes, there are many crims in the game. Case by case basis for me.
