He's a worker. You need a balance of workers and impact players in your pack. Woods, Grant, Felise and Ava are all workers. Ava is a solid no frills prop. Every side needs a player like that on like 200k. If he wants more than that you can replace him.

Ava doesn't bend the line doesn't break tackles doesn't offload. Makes about 9m a hit up. You can find someone to do that for 85k

I reckon you're selling him short there Gun. He might not be a world-beater but he usually doesn't get owned and he works hard when on the field, backs up and has a bit of speed about him. He has gradually improved and no reason that won't continue.

Like I've said, I just listen to the analytics (it's what I'm used to doing) can't be paying overs for him on sentiment. His numbers aren't flattering for a starting prop.

Do the analysist take in count the different job the two starting props do?
Like when they get the ball? I.e which ones takes it up in space as opposed to doing the dirty hit ups?

Anyone know what the NRL minimum wage will be for someone in the top 30 squad next year?

Bit of a read but lots of answers here

https://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

Thanks mate. Very confusing though. Doesn't say minimum for each player, just the team from what I could tell

Its 80k this season
For FY18 the RLPA propose it will increase to 100k but hasn't been endorsed.

Exising contracts won't be updated if signed before agreed min wage hence why so many players have not signed.

Note we will also have development players up to 6 on top of this at 65k

Can't argue with the lack of second phase, but 9 m per hitup is alright for a prop, the top props like Woods and Bromwich are in the 9s. Fifita doesn't even average 9 m per hitup, he is high 8s. Hitups defined as all run metres divided by all runs.

As reported first by @BuzzRothfield, I'm hearing @Cronulla_Sharks are closing in on the signature of @WestsTigers forward Ava Seumanufagai.

Possibly clearing space for Packer.

I would prefer to have Ava in our team than Packer. Ava has more upside as well.
The only thing the "squat and cough" bloke has over Ava is aggression. Otherwise Ava is the better player IMO.

Maybe that's exactly your point.

When was the last time you saw a Wests Tiger charge full-tilt into the opposition line like a Ruben Wiki hitup? Ambling up can get the job done half the time, doesn't worry the opposition at the try line and doesn't put fear into them.

Even blokes like Darius Boyd take more aggressive hitups than most of our blokes.

Not sure that players actually fear opposition players running at them at pace TBH. They are more likely to be worried about a bloke with a step at the line or deft offload.
Not sold on Packer, but if Ava has the desire to leave then so be it. One positive with Packer at our club we would save on watering the training paddock if soiling himself on-field is still part of his routine.

Gimmee a hard aggressive running front rower thats likely to bend/break the line, continue to make metres post contact and get the set off to a good start any day

I prefer Ava over Grant but looking at 2017 stats, Grant is doing better statistically.

Ava:
Avg 23 Tackles, 11 Hitups, 93 Metres
https://www.totalfootystats.com.au/nrl-player-stats/wests-tigers/ava-seumanufagai#.WQF4y2dU270

Grant:
Avg 29 Tackles, 11 Hitups, 100 Metres
https://www.totalfootystats.com.au/nrl-player-stats/wests-tigers/tim-grant#.WQF4tGdU270

Yep but Ava has two tries and grant is still on track for a nudie run.

I would hate to see him go but it wouldn't be the end of the world, statistically. But some players are worth more than their stats.

I go after James Graham I think he would come over here to be with Josh.
Seeing him on 360 and the news he's devastated about loosing JR.

He is the type of player we need.
Would be a huge upgrade for us.

What about penalties conceded?

I think Grant would be 1st with daylight 2nd then Ava 3rd…

Yep, fair enough mate. I agree that he is probably not starting prop standard. I'd be happy to keep him as a benchie though, and develop some impact with him.

I think its not that we don't want him but the Sharks want him more and he wants out. Also I think he is in Isaac Moses's stable and he seems hell bent on getting his troops out of Concord

I think we have a new rule. If they come from Moses or Ayoub, don't touch them!

I have no idea what Moses was playing at, guessing he thought that he could get overs for all 4 players IF they all signed together. Ivans now buying value, the question is how do we keep our guys away from the bad player managers early on.

I think you will find most player managers are tarred with the same brush. Can not think of to many good ones

Honestly if it's between Ava and grant or new signing (eg packer) and promote Felise im going with option 2

Contract length may be the deciding factor in Ava joining the Sharkies…2 years offered here as opposed to 3 there...

He does his job every week...Felise and Tatola have the potential to step into his role...I'm a fan of Seumanufagai but we will move on..

Me too.
Maybe they don't "Fear" them but they certainly remember it when a big bopper runs over them.
And the big guys running into the halves and 5/8s makes their day hell as well
Why do you think that they aim for them whenever they can,
