What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

This whole argument is complete rubbish.

Im a balmain fan originally.

Anyone who denies the benefit and importance particularly in Junior development of the Macarthur is misguided at best.

Anyone who thinks that providing players is the be all and end all is also a fool, stating who provides more players and blah blah blah is being overly simplistic.

Junior development is as much do with setting up systems (recruitment and otherwise) from all areas to build HM, SGB and NYC teams to provide a constant flow of quality players through to the top. The West Tigers seem to be doing very well at this.

The fact is that without each other the Balmain Tigers and West Magpies would be extinct, we have the JV, which has some disadvantages for both teams, the art of compromise, the sooner fans of the former entities focus on what they do have, rather than what we dont have the better off we will all be, and the happier the fans will be

Well said!!!!…can we all move on now ?

Willow: please don't close this thread, even though it has recently moved away from the thread topic.
Maybe it should be re-named but otherwise it's a healthy ventilation of some burning issues.

so i heard that one half of the nrl basically want the nsw cup or a reserve grade comp to only have teams that are in the nrl. which means teams like wests magpies, balmain, norths, newtown wouldnt be in it - they would be in the bundaberg cup instead which would help promote the bundaberg cup. wests tigers would be in the nsw cup/reserve grade comp.

The current nyc would be taken off the profile it is today and back to the old jersey flegg there will pron be a national reserve grade comp for over 20yo.. Consequently that will mean all nsw cup teams will drop to bundaberg cup on their own.. Basically park footy

best decision wests tigers could make.I hope it happens but force every nrl club to field a team also.

Back to 3 grades in 1 day playing at the same ground will be great for the fans.

Ah yes, back to the future, the cycle never changes it keeps on going around and around and around

If the independant commish comes into play.. It would make sense to have this kind of structure: Wt nrl first grade > wt nrl 2nd grade (over 21yo) - replaces toyota cup. those over 21 not good enough for 2nd grade play bundaberg cup (open footy) for wests magpies or bret (played on nrl game days in a state based comp) Wests and balmain each have a 15 yo (harold matts) > 17 yo (sg ball) > 19 (jersey flegg) team that feeds into the next team. Thoughts gents?

That WT NRL 2nd Grade team would be more like a combined NSW Cup team, and the Jersey Flegg team would be more like the Under 20s.

You would also need to have an Under 21s comp if the 2nd Grade comp is for those over 21 years old.

Move age limit for flegg up to 20 or send them to bundaberg cup

If Flegg was 20 year olds or younger then why shouldn't 21 year olds be able to play in the 2nd Grade comp?

Was talking with a mate from work who was telling me he had heard that as of the 1st July the players from the raiders who are not playing 1st grade will no longer be able to play in the qld cup and for the remainder of the season will spread over the local teams. He also heard that the raiders were in negotiations with a Sydney club to have players playing in the nsw cup similar to sharks/storm setup.

Not sure where he got this info from but that combined with a few comments made in this thread suggesting wests magpies were talking with raiders and dragons makes the info interesting that a local raiders member is hearing this aswell.

would that be starting from next year???

Yes alien I do believe that's what he was implying.

Would think the raiders would like this to happen asap as the local comp I would think is much weaker then qld cup and the players are to be divided between clubs having them play each other. Much the same as two separate teams that wests and balmain played in years past.

I've heard the Raiders will be forming a partnership with Mounties in the Bundy Cup. With Wests Tigers likely to play in the NSW Cup next year at the expense of Balmain i can see the Dragons forming a partnership with the Magpies and provide them with some much needed cattle.

It's strange that Canberra Raiders would rather have a partnership with a Bundy Cup club instead of a NSW Cup club.

I can't understand how Wests would contemplate a joint-venture with Canberra or St George as if it were second nature, yet when asked by their joint-venture partners in the first grade competition it is an attempt to kill off their club?

If this is the case, and Wests have gone off by themselves and negotiated a deal with a competitor behind the backs of Wests Tigers and Balmain Tigers, they have acted disgracefully in my opinion. There is no logic in helping strengthen the competition in St George, allowing them to use their extra money on FG, giving them a competitive advantage over the Wests Tigers club. To be honest, it says to me that they have no respect for the joint venture and their joint venture partners.

matty119,
Wests Tigers have shown Wests great disrespect by not allocating them a fair share of NRL players. Balmain have shown disrespect also by not insisting Wests get their fair share and taking all of the best NRL players possible.

Wests Magpies wont be forced into folding by Wests Tigers. And if Wests Tigers disgracefully refuse to provide them what is rightfully theirs, they will seek quality players from elsewhere.
